Occupational Therapy

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy (OT) treatment focuses on helping people of all ages and abilities achieve independence in every area of their lives. When working with children, an OT addresses their cognitive, physical, fine motor, visual perception and sensory processing skills.  A child’s main job is playing and this is the approach that is taken during therapy sessions.

Read on to see if Occupational Therapy is for your child:

Do you have a child who is struggling with printing or handwriting?

Are there concerns with fine motor development (grasping objects such as a pencil, using scissors, manipulating buttons or zippers)?

Do you have a child who is over or under whelmed by sensory input and he/she has difficulty focusing?

Do you have a child with a diagnosis including, but not limited to: ADHD, developmental delay, learning disability, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, developmental coordination disorder, brain injury?

These are some typical reasons for a referral to Occupational Therapy. An individualized therapy plan can help improve the areas of difficulties and allow them to reach their developmental milestones successfully.

At Play In Motion Occupational Therapy we provide:

  • Individual assessment and program planning
  • Individual therapy sessions
  • Group therapy sessions

Printing/handwriting programs are based on the Handwriting Without Tears Program which uses a multisensory approach to learning.  The focus is to use different methods and movements to allow the child to remember how to form the letters and it significantly reduces the repetitive method of paper/pencil worksheets.
