Yoga Therapy
What is Yoga Therapy and how is it different to a traditional Yoga class?
Yoga Therapy is a branch of Yoga that’s primary focus is the rehabilitation of people living with chronic pain. It is not a private yoga class.
Amie’s unique training uses movement analysis to guide clients to explore tendencies in their breath, mind and movement that lead to dysfunctional movement patterns resulting in pain. This approach to healing appreciates the multidimensional nature of our being and how our physical, mental, energetic and emotional tendencies impact how functionally we move in our structure and in the world we live in. A personalized program with precise movements, breath work and often diet and lifestyle suggestions for each client is designed. A diagnosis acknowledges how the mind, body and breath all work synergistically to make us who we are. Yoga Therapy programs focus on all of these areas and customize each program to individual needs.
Today, Yoga Therapy is informed by contemporary health sciences. As part of a living tradition Yoga Therapy continues to evolve and adapt to the cultural context in which it is practiced. It’s efficacy is supported by an increasing body of research evidence, which contributes to the growing understanding and acceptance of its value as a therapeutic discipline.
“Over the course of our lives our bodies grow and develop according to certain biomechanical principals. Through life we experience times of injury, illness and emotional turmoil. All these cause us to make physical compensations that sometimes lead to physical weakness.” – Susi Hately
